'THE NEXT GENERATION GRID'

FOCUSED ON POWER SYSTEMS OPERATION, PLANNING,
POLICY, MARKETS, ANALYSIS, AND CONTROL

The 2009 IEEE PES Power Systems Conference& Exhibition (PSCE) is a major power systems event that will provide an exceptional venue for discussing issues and developments as well as for highlighting key vendors with products and services essential to the multifaceted field of electrical power systems.

PSCE will bring together an international group of practicing power systems engineers, operators, planners, policy makers, economists, academics and others with interest in the profession.

The conference will begin with a timely and valuable plenary session and will also include tutorials on the most up-to-date topics on power systems. Paper, panel and poster sessions will be scheduled, with top papers drawn from all committees to be featured in Super Sessions on the following current and important topics:

• System-Wide Events and Analysis Methods
• Integrating Wind Energy
• Emerging Software Needs for the Restructured Grid
• Control System Robustness Today and in the Future
• The Smart Grid and the Internet

Papers are invited on topics related to power systems, and especially for the Super Sessions topics with the following focus:

Super Session 1: System-Wide Events and Analysis Methods

• Generation, transmission, distribution, forecasting and integrated resource planning
• Wide area monitoring and control, PMUs, special protection systems (SPS)
• Dynamic and static security assessment and control
• Computational methods, visualization, intelligent systems
• Market interactions during system-wide events

Super Session 2: Integrating Wind Energy

• Resource planning with wind and other stochastic and/or distributed resources
• Forecasting wind and other stochastic resources
• Systems operations issues with wind and other stochastic resources
• Transmission access for wind
• Dynamic simulation of wind power generation

Super Session 3: Emerging Software Needs for the Restructured Grid

• Economics, market organization, cost structures, pricing, and information security
• Ancillary services
• Financial settlement
• Merchant power
• Standardization

Super Session 4: Control System Robustness Today and in the Future

• SCADA / EMS / DMS
• Substation and distribution automation
• Cyber security issues
• Effective computational techniques and analytical methods for planning, operation, and control
• Teaching robustness to the next generation of engineers

Super Session 5: The Smart Grid and the Internet

• Information technology for energy automation
• Demand side management and customer choice
• Communications and control infrastructure for distributed grid control
• Asset Management
• Internet tools for better understanding of power systems

Manuscript Submission: Papers must be prepared in accordance with the procedures outlined in the PES Publications Guide, which is part of the PES Authors Kit available at the PES web site (www.ieee.org/power).
Complete manuscripts are to be submitted electronically via the PES 2009 Paper Submission web site, which will be accessible from the Power Systems Conference and Exposition web site (
www.pscexpo.com) and can also be linked from the PES web site (www.ieee.org/power).

The submission site will close Monday, September 8, 2008. Authors will be notified of the decision regarding their paper by October 15, 2008. At least one author of each paper must register for the meeting and pay the appropriate fee before an accepted paper will be released for publication in the 2009 PES PSCE Proceedings or scheduled for presentation during a Super Session, or panel, paper, poster sessions.
