       On January 8th, the National Science & Technology Awards Conference was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Leaders of Party and State including Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang attended the conference and awarded for the delegates. Wen Jiabao spoke at the conference in representative of Central Party Committee and the State Council. Li Keqiang presided the conference.
       First president Hu Jintao awarded the certificates to the two academicians, Min Enze and Wu Zhengyi, who had won the highest State award of science & technology in china. Then he congratulated to them and shook hands fervidly. Along with impassioned applause, leaders of Party and State then went on awarding for the other delegates.
       Premier Wen Jiabao explained at the conference that science and technology are prime productivity. In order to learn, publicize and fulfill the Spirit of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Deeply and realize All-round Construction of the “Well-off Society”, expedite the cause of modernization, more efforts must be devoted to the development of science and technology. The key point in realization of future economic goals lies in converting the Way of Developing Economy, and transfer of economy construction to relying on technical progress and improving laborer’s quality. Improving innovative capability and building up an innovative country must be given priority in national development strategy. Wen Jiabao brought forward 6 idiographic requirements: 1. Step up the implementation of Important National Science & Technology Specific Projects. 2. Attach great importance to mastery of key technologies needed to break through the restriction of social and economic developments. 3. Strengthen basic science research pressingly. 4.Pay great attention to assimilation and innovation of import technology in China. 5.Develop the spirit of science. 6. Enhance scientific qualities of the whole nation with further effort.
       Li Keqiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee emphasized that the Central Party Committee and State Council award technological works that have made outstanding contribution to the development of science and technology, which is an embodiment of the solicitude and recognition from Central Committee towards the technology industry and ordinary technological workers. All the technological workers were expected to develop the Patriotic spirit of dedication, the scientific spirit of innovation, the exploratory spirit of bearing hardship, and the team spirit of unity and collaboration, and to create more excellent achievements in the course of constructing an innovative country.
       Chen Zhili, a state councilor, announced the Decision Made by the State Council on National Science & Technology Awards for 2007.
       The two projects recommended by CSEE, “Research and application of ultra supercritical generation technology” and “the key technology, development of devices and engineering application of 750KV transmission and transforming project”, were awarded the first prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress. “Research and actualization of improving transmission ability of national grid” and “PCS-9500 HVDC control and protection technology and its application” were awarded the second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress.
       The delegates by whom the awarded projects were accomplished attended the conference, including Zhang Xiaolu, Jin Langchuan, Liu Bencui, Zhang Yalin, Zhang Zhigang and Tian Jie. Delegates of award office and related electric power corporations and departments also attended the conference, including Li Ruomei, Zhang Qiping, Chen Xiaoliang, Fan Hong, Wang Changbao, Jiang Yiguo, Zhu Yue, Hu Shihai, Ji Shidong, Ruan Dawei, Yang Haiyin, Xu Quankun, Zhong Luwen, He Kun, Cao Yan, Peng Jiangnan, Gao Hong, Song Chang, Xu Dingfeng, Wang Congsheng, Chen Lin, Li Hongchun, Qi Hongjing, Wu Xuehui, Zhao Dong, Hu Xiangyan, Li Feng, etc.
